Winter is here and what a wonderful time of year for you and I to spend with family and friends. Whether this means shopping, outdoor events or parties, it usually requires getting out of the house.
You may be from Texas (like me) where the weather varies widely and changes constantly, so much so that we have a saying that goes “if you don’t like the weather now just wait a minute”.
Or maybe you’re from the windy cities of Nebraska, Kansas or even the Dakota’s. Whichever region you are from, at some point we will all need to bundle ourselves and the kids in coats, scarves and hats.
Here are 3 of my favorite tips that will help sustain the entire family’s hair through the winter.
Tip #1: Use a leave-in conditioner.
The cold, dry winter air may cause hair to become dry, dull, or frizzy. I recommend moisturizing using a leave-in conditioner or daily moisturizer of your choice (I like the Cantu daily moisturizer). Deep conditioning is also very beneficial to help replenish moisture and minimize breakage. And remember, make sure that your hair is not wet before going outside in the cold, this minimizes hair damage and split ends.
Tip #2: Avoid Frequent Washing Co-wash when possible.
We all know that some shampoos strip hair of its natural oils. We need to maintain a natural oil balance. Castor oil, olive oil, and argon oil work best on my hair and scalp. Learn each member’s hair type and use what works best individually. Make sure to check the labels and avoid sulfate and alcohol-based products! Also look at the ingredients of your baby’s shampoo, just because it says gentle doesn’t make it so!
